Brian Abrams – Solicitor – Senior Partner
Brian started his legal career as an Apprentice Solicitor with the Firm. After rising through the ranks, he became Senior Partner in 1985. Having been a general practitioner in the Firm before it became the norm to specialise in a particular area of the law, Brian has a wide knowledge of a range of areas of the law. Now he focuses his expertise on the areas of Commercial Property and general Commercial matters, although when he has the time to do so he still enjoys dealing with Residential Conveyancing work for some of his existing clients.

Vanessa Beattie – Solicitor – Associate
Vanessa has been a valuable part of the Firm since she was a trainee solicitor. Her particular areas of expertise are in Commercial Property (buying, selling and leasing)and Commercial Security transactions. She also deals with Company Secretarial work and Company Law generally and is a key part of a small, close knit team who aim to provide technically sound, but practical, advice to the Firm’s Business clients.

Ying Wai Chan – Solicitor – Associate
Ying Wai’s role within the Firm is to provide legal services tailored to the requirements of the Chinese community. Her particular area of expertise is in Commercial Property but she also provides her clients with any assistance they require to access services provided by the Firm’s other departments. Ying Wai is fluent in Cantonese, and deals readily with Mandarin-speaking clients with the assistance of her translator, Sau Ming Kwan. The services Ying Wai provides are provided in English, but with translations of documents and correspondence provided in Chinese as required.

Kirsty Cooper – Solicitor – Associate
Kirsty joined the Firm as a Trainee Solicitor and has real expertise in all aspects of Residential Conveyancing, as part of the team of which she is now an integral part. She has a sound knowledge of the Property Market in Edinburgh and the Lothians, and combines an understanding of the need to provide practical advice with a keen eye for detail.

Allan Crocker – Solicitor – Partner
Allan joined the Firm in 1988 and his areas of expertise cover all aspects of Wills, Trusts, Executries, Tax Planning and Adults with Incapacity. Allan’s work requires a substantial and detailed technical knowledge combined with a good “bedside manner”. Some of the situations his clients are dealing with are ones that they find difficult or upsetting. Allan’s aim is to provide his clients with the know- how and expertise that they need, and to do so in a sensitive manner.

Andrew Diamond – Solicitor – Partner
Andrew joined the Firm in 1992 as a Trainee Solicitor and is now the Partner responsible for the Residential Conveyancing Team and the Estate Agency Division, MacMac Residential. He has an in depth knowledge of the Residential Property Market in Edinburgh and the Lothians and his clients benefit from his practical approach to all aspects of Residential Property work – an approach which he instils in the teams under his charge.

John George – Solicitor – Consultant
John in a new addition to the Firm having joined in 2008.  However he has a wealth of experience and contacts having been in practice as a principal in two other firms for over 40 years.  He has previously handled a wide range of legal business but now concentrates on property work, especially in the commercial sphere, and private client work, particularly tax planning, preparation of Wills and administration of estates.

Irene Hamilton-Jones – Property Manager – MacMac Residential
Irene has more than twenty five years of knowledge of the Property Market, all of it gained in this Firm. She is a major asset to the Firm’s clients by providing them with invaluable pre-sale advice on the asking price for their property, the likely sale price and how to present the property to achieve the best possible sale. Irene remains available to provide ongoing advice to clients as the marketing of their property progresses. Once our clients have achieved successful sales they are frequently impressed by how accurate Irene’s pre-sale assessment of their property has proved to be.

Mark Harris – Legal Executive
Mark has been part of the Firm for more than twenty years and during that period has developed considerable skills in relation to the administration of Executries. He provides invaluable assistance to our Wills, Trusts & Executries Partner, Allan Crocker, and deals efficiently and sympathetically with the day-to-day administration of Executries, from registering deaths to ingathering Executry funds to distributing funds and accounting to our clients and the Tax Authorities.

Reena Koli – Senior Administrator – MacMac Residential
Reena is responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of MacMac Residential . Marketing properties for sale involves a significant number of administrative processes, such as preparation and approval of sales brochures, registration with ESPC and preparation of press advertisements. Reena takes care of these processes, which are completed timeously and with attention to detail. She aims to ensure that all of our clients are satisfied that the marketing of their property was achieved efficiently and using high quality sales brochures and advertisements.

Sau Ming Kwan – Translator
Sau Ming works closely with Ying Wai Chan to deliver legal services to the Chinese community. She is multi-lingual and is fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin. Sau Ming also assists our Cantonese and Mandarin speaking clients with accessing services provided by English speaking solicitors within the Firm, and by the Firm’s Estate Agency arm, MacMac Residential.

Jim MacLachlan – Solicitor – Assistant
Jim is not the “Mr MacLachlan” who was a founder of the Firm (some 130 years ago!) although he is frequently asked the question. He is in fact one of a number of the solicitors who are now Partners, Associates or Assistants with the Firm who started their legal careers as Apprentices or Trainee Solicitors with the Firm and who have stayed with us to continue their careers. Jim is a valued member of the Residential Conveyancing Team and, as one who has been with us since trainee days, he is well in tune with our ethos of providing advice which is both technically sound and practical.

Maggie McConnachie – Property Manager – MacMac Residential
Maggie has been a Property Manager for over fifteen years and uses her experience and market knowledge to provide our clients with practical and informed pre-sale advice on how their property should be marketed, and at what price, to achieve the best result. Our clients frequently benefit from Maggie’s ability to help them distinguish between presenting a property in a way which suits a client’s own taste and in a way which is likely to be best received by prospective purchasers. She remains available for clients to consult as the marketing of their property progresses.
